From Trauma to Tranquility: Japandi Supply House Launches with a Mission Rooted in CTE, Severe Depression, and Radical Resilience
July 2025

Founded at the intersection of grief, grit, and grace, Japandi Supply House officially announces its launch as a mission-driven lifestyle brand shaped by personal crisis. Created by Emily and Kevin Bishop, the online store offers mindfully designed home goods inspired by Japandi design, a timeless fusion of Japanese minimalism and Scandinavian warmth.

The couple’s journey began when the 2020 pandemic shuttered their long-standing brand strategy and design business—leaving them financially devastated and emotionally fractured, like all of us during this global event. At the same time, Kevin, a former elite athlete, was battling presumed CTE (Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy), a degenerative brain condition linked to years of contact sports. The symptoms—ranging from depression, anxiety, mood swings, rage to paranoia and withdrawal—accelerated rapidly. Emily, in turn, fell into severe and isolating depression of her own.

“What followed was years of survival,” Emily shares. “We were isolated, deeply overwhelmed, and holding on by threads. Japandi gave us a light in the dark when nothing else made sense.”
Drawing on decades of experience in branding, design, marketing and creative direction, Emily and Kevin used their remaining energy and savings to self-fund a new vision: Japandi Supply House, a platform that values healing over hustle, and restoration over reinvention.

“This isn’t just a business—it’s a way forward,” says Kevin. “Every product we carry is selected for its craftsmanship, natural materials, and ability to support a calm, grounded life.”
From sustainable furniture and serene lighting to intentional bath rituals and room shoes, Japandi Supply House curates global brands that align with their core values: quality, longevity, and emotional wellness. The company is committed to giving back—pledging at least 1% of all revenue to organizations supporting mental health, starting with a planned donation to KEXP, the music platform that helped sustain the couple during their darkest times.
