Sometimes simply knowing someone is there is enough.
Several years ago, my world became very small.
While caring for a loved one through a devastating neurological illness, life became increasingly isolated. Years were spent inside our home, separated from friends, community, and the life I once knew.
During those years, KEXP became a reminder that the world was still there.
People were still creating.
Still discovering music.
Still showing up for one another.
Sometimes I would write to the station. Sometimes a DJ would say my name on the air. Other times, someone would simply reply to my email with a hello.
Those small moments probably lasted only seconds.
To me, they were beacons.
They reminded me that someone knew I was out there.
That I still mattered.
That I wasn't completely alone.
You never know who is listening.
You never know what someone is carrying.
A song.
A familiar voice.
A simple hello.
Sometimes that's enough to help someone keep going.
